MONDAY AUGUST 18, 2014
In class tonight we started working on the money designs, for real. A few friendly reminders:
1. Use paper larger than the desired dimensions of your currency (read as: leave room on the edges of your paper)
2. Sketch first.
3. Watercolor is all about layering (pen/outline is a LAST step)
4. If you're even slightly unsure about your idea, how to proceed, what techniques to make use of... please ask- anyone! Get outside help!
5. Plan ahead! Don't wind up stuck (or worse) because you failed to route your path.
6. Pencil will never go away once you watercolor over it- plan for that. (Also, the depressions in the paper from pencil sketching c an create very shallow wells where paint will hangout with it's friends, get high, and stay out past its curfew.)
7. Use tools. (ruler, paper cutter, etc) along with your eyeballs (cause those are tools too!)
SIDE NOTE: if you need to use making fluid, use whatever brush you desire, just wash it out with soap and water immediately after use.
Project can be double sided or presented as 2-up for one bill.

MONDAY JULY 28, 2014
For Wednesday 7/30 collect 10 examples of illustration (digital, physical, whatever presentation mode you desire). Have them at the ready for show-and-tell first thing in class.
For August 4, 2014 (Monday) here is your assignment to start thinking about/ working on:
Create five unique examples that convey the concept 'passage of time' using only cut paper (black, white, gray).
- each example should measure 5"x5"
- you may only use black, white, and gray paper.
- use the 3 color paper options in whatever combination you desire
- the paper used to assemble your images may only be cut in triangles (no other shapes allowed!)
- cut your triangles from the 3 color options and GLUE them onto your 5"x5" paper
- you can depict the concept of passage of time in a representational or abstract manner
Essentially you are cutting and pasting triangles onto 5"x5" paper squares (your background color can only be black, white or gray... just like the triangles you cut and paste onto the squares) that successfully illustrate the concept of 'the passage of time'.
Your inspiration should derive from how we physically interact with time, comparison, how we capture the passage of time in visual representations, the universe as we observe it, etc.
Remember to include what you learned in Design Fundamentals (i.e. unity, successful composition, balance, harmony, etc).
Evaluation is based 50% quality of construction and 50% creativity/concept.
SUPPLIES
You will need:
- black, white and gray paper (black and white can be found in Term 1, gray can easily be created using a b + w xerox machine buy copying any light colored paper, by filling a photoshop page with a gray fill, or even by coloring white paper gray with a marker)
- scissors or x-acto knife
- glue/adhesive
- a ruler (if you want one)
Good luck!
